The Hand of Glory
In Victorian England it was believed the severed left hand of a hanged thief offered protection to the criminally inclined.
The hand, once dried and fitted with lit candles made from the dead thief's fat, was supposed to cause all living souls in a home to fall into a deep sleep.
While the occupants were under the spell of the "Hand of Glory," the bandit wielding the morbid object could freely move about the home and take any objects they desired without the fear of detection!
